JPG vs PNG: Which format should you use?

By VoraTools Editorial Published on Aug 11, 2026
Choosing between JPG and PNG depends entirely on what the image contains:

JPEG / JPG
Best for photographs and realistic images. JPG uses lossy compression, meaning it discards some details to achieve small file sizes. It does not support transparent backgrounds.

PNG
Best for logos, illustrations, graphics, and text screenshots. PNG is lossless, maintaining perfect pixel clarity, and supports transparency. However, PNG files are significantly larger.
